Margareta A. Faissler & Killebrew Libraries
Roland Park Country School libraries are known in the educational community as being among the most technologically advanced school libraries in the region. In fact, our libraries have served as models for other independent school libraries and are frequently visited by professionals and students from the community.
The Faissler Library serves the Upper and Middle Schools and is staffed from 7:45 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:45 a.m. – 4:30 on Friday. The library houses a collection of over 24,000 volumes, numerous periodicals, videos, DVD’s and audio-visual equipment that can be accessed through a sophisticated electronic catalog that houses collections of both the Faissler Library and the Killebrew Library. This impressive collection is further enhanced by the RPCS Online Library Network containing electronic access to forty-six online products that include fifty-nine separate databases. The Roland Park Country School eLibrary provides eBooks through the Overdrive system, the global leader in eBooks and audiobooks for libraries. This product allows one to download eBooks and audiobooks to computers, tablets, e-readers such as Kindle, Kindle Fire, Nook and, iPad as well as to smart phones, IPods and other handheld devices. Both the RPCS Online Library Network and Overdrive offer 24/7 access to their products. The school wireless system enables students to connect to the Internet and to the RPCS Intranet anywhere they are seated in the library whether they are in a study carrel, seated at a study table or studying in the more relaxed lounge area. Computers on the library hex are dedicated workstations through which students can access the library catalog, the RPCS Online Library Network and the Internet. The Faissler Library is also home to the Juanita Jackson Mitchell Multicultural Resource Center.
The Killebrew Library serves the Lower School and is staffed from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. It houses a collection of over 10,000 volumes and numerous periodicals geared toward younger readers. The library also has an extensive collection of videos and DVD’s. The Killebrew Library is linked to the Faissler Library via networked computer workstations and has the Lower School Computer Lab situated within its physical space. This gives the Killebrew Library access to the RPCS Online Library as well as the catalogs of both the Killebrew Library and the Faissler Library. In addition, the Killebrew Library houses a special collection on mythology.
